Hulu and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Ugh!

Thank author of this post/commentI think many businesses have lost fact of their primary function, and that is to generate revenue, ie: profit for their shareholders. Of course, the best way for a company to do that is to provide a quality product or service at a fair price.

That will naturally result in an increasing customer base and profits. Of course, decent customer service is an inherent part of a "quality product or service at a fair price".

Now, let's look at Hulu. They have a product, the legal streaming of movies and television shows. It's not quite a quality product because of their small selection of television shows, ok, the list is long, but they don't offer many of the current popular shows. Additionally, their (or Flash's) streaming and user interface needs some help.

I really can't see what the benefit of streaming off the net is. I'd much prefer to download the programs into an encrypted dvr app (product the IP rights of the shows) at night and watch them at my leisure.

Now, Hulu has two mentions of revenue generation, advertising revenue and subscribe fees for Hulu Plus. The ad revenue obviously increases based on eyeballs, and really the subscriber revenue too.

Now it gets sticky. I would think the shareholders therefore would be interested in getting as many users, eyeballs, ad revenue and subscriptions as possible. Yet, the business it seems has another idea.

Though they support many platforms, the Samsung Galaxy Tab seems to be an exception. They have an Android App which doesn't work. The Galaxy Tab has a browser and current version of Flash (the same requirements as the PC version). Yet, they have it blocked.

You can stream Crackle with the browser and Flash no hassles (or use their App). What's wrong Hulu? In their forum, they complain that there are various versions of Andriod and device specific differences.

I won't argue with that, but it's just an excuse. I can't imagine it would take your programmers more than a day or two to make it work, or to remove the block in your Flash version.

Or, are the programmers at Crackle and Netflix smarter than yours?

There it is... two functional alternatives without going and digging up hacks through Google searches. I guess the failure to support popular platforms is a reflection of your failure to recognize your primary business function and therefore a step towards a bankruptcy filing.

Thanks, but no thanks. Get off your excuses and get yours apps in order. In the meantime, I think it's time to say good night, good bye and I'll put my eyeballs and money someplace else.
